Hands Across the Sand 2019 Volusia-Flagler

Together we stand, together we fight! The Volusia-Flagler chapters of the Surfrider Foundation and the Sierra Club invite you to join us in opposing offshore drilling, seismic airgun blasting, fracking, and other technologies which harm marine life and ecosystems. New this year, we will be doing a Paddle Out as part of our event so you can either join hands on the beach or paddle out and join hands to show your support. Bring your own SUP, kayak, or surfboard if you want to paddle out! The event ends with a picnic, socializing, and info about our organizations and causes.

We’ll provide a few buckets for collecting trash, a few pairs of reusable gloves, fruit, sodas, ice, paper towels, and water. Please bring your reusable water bottles, lunch, and a simple dish or food item to share, as well as your own gloves and buckets if you have them, a chair or towel, and handmade signs supporting clean energy or opposing seismic testing, offshore drilling, fracking, etc. This is not about politics; it’s about protecting our coastal economies, oceans, marine life, coral reefs, fisheries, and our land environment.

Timeline:
10:00 am – Meet on the beach at the Surfrider tent to do a beach cleanup
11:30 am – Reconvene at the Surfrider tent to prepare for HATS
Noon – Join hands across the sand or paddle out and join hands for 15 minutes
12:30 pm – Picnic!

A note about parking: You can drive onto the beach at Hartford Avenue, and there is limited off-beach parking nearby. Please carpool if possible!
