Hands Across the Sand
Oil giant OMV are coming to drill in the Great South Basin off Dunedin’s coast as early as this summer. We say No.
One year ago, we held hands across the St Clair Esplanade and signed letters to OMV telling them not to come. But this year, on the one year anniversary of our Prime Minister announcing no new off shore oil and gas permits, OMV still said they will come. They need reminding that they are not welcome here.
OMV may not understand how much we care about our ocean, our sea creatures and birds, and our southern way of life. They may not know the proud history of peaceful civil disobedience in Aotearoa NZ. They may not know that our city’s leaders have opposed deep sea drilling, divested our ratepayers’ money from fossil fuel investments and are already on the way to a fossil free future.
Join us as we hold hands again and say NO to more climate destruction.
Hands Across the Sand is a worldwide event to remember the devastation caused by the Deepwater Horizon oil rig blowout in the Gulf of Mexico in April 2010, and to collectively say “No More”
